A revealing New Film to Celebrate Eckington's Heritage
Work is underway on a new documentary that celebrates the rich history of Eckington, one of Derbyshire's oldest villages.
Derbyshire Diaries: A Picture of Eckington is being made by local production company Compress Media, who are working hard to ensure completion of the documentary in time for a Christmas release.
The film follows the story of the village, from its humble beginnings as a Saxon farming settlement over a thousand years ago, to its key role in medieval industry, to the lively town that people know today.
With input from several local experts, producer Geoff Wheatley hopes the film will inspire the local community.
"We have been surprised and excited by the amount of support we received from all camps, especially the Sitwell Estate at Renishaw Hall, the Parish Council and the Church," said Mr Wheatley.
This has boosted our enthusiasm for the project even further and enabled us to produce a great film that will appeal to people of all ages."
"We would like to think that Eckington's history will inspire the public in the same way it has inspired us, together with the people and organisations already backing us," said Kenny Riley, the film's photographer and co-producer. "This region has some amazing landscapes and I have really enjoyed capturing those images."
The film also features some stunning aerial footage, which director Paul Burdett is especially pleased with.
"The aerial shots will remind people just how beautiful Eckington is. The town has a great story to tell."
Following from the potential success of A Picture of Eckington, the team's next aim is to develop a whole series of films on the history of Derbyshire.
Lead researcher Rob Hantke concluded, "Most people in the area probably aren't aware of the many stories the village holds. Our aim is to bring some of that history to life.
This should really put Eckington on the map and I am very proud to have been involved."
Derbyshire Diaries: A picture of Eckington can be ordered now from this website where visitors can also find special offers, watch trailers and make their own contributions on the forum and submit their own photos, text and video footage for further editions of the DVD and next years calendar.
